"The City Planning Movement in Pasadena"
Vroman's Bookstore

695 E Colorado Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91101

As the region's largest independent bookseller, Vroman's is a venerated Pasadena institution that dates back to 1894.

During the original Planning Movement, Vroman's supported a City Beautiful Assn. competition by providing one of the prizes.

Today, Vroman's is more than a bookstore. With its great selection, newsstand (one of the last), cafe, and speakers series, Vroman's remains a treasured institution, providing a community space for public presentations that is rare today.

The Centennial Release of

"My City"

Celebrating the Origins of Pasadena's Greatest Endeavor

"My City" tells the story of Pasadena's model city aspirations and the landmark exhibit that brought 5000 people together to envision the city's future.

"Know Your City Better" read the sign on the wall of the original "My City" exhibit. And as their knowledge grew, the excitement and momentum of Pasadena's ongoing conversation about planning its future helped set in motion Pasadena's Golden Age of Development.

Based on the work of Pasadena's City Beautiful planning movement, "My City" explores the extraordinary results this method achieved, the subsequent planning mistakes that occurred when it was abandoned, and how the "My City" approach can be revitalized for any city today.

Created as a gift of gratitude by native son David Robert Wolf, the "My City" project is also your invitation to both "Know Your City Better" and help plan its future.
